World Energy Efficiency Day

Grupo Piñero uses electricity from 100% renewable sources in all its hotels in Spain

  • Thanks to this measure, more than 6,658 tons of CO2 will no longer be emitted into the atmosphere in 2020

  • The action is part of the company's 2019-2024 Energy Efficiency Measures Plan, developed to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in its Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts business area

  • Grupo Piñero also promotes the use of new types of sustainable energy, as well as intelligent control systems and improvements in the lighting of the facilities

Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with more than 40 years of history, joins the celebration of World Energy Efficiency Day by making public its latest advances in the responsible and rational energy use.

In this regard, one of the most noteworthy achievements of the company is that it supplies all its hotels in Spain with electricity that is 100% from renewable sources. A measure that Grupo Piñero implemented last year with its energy partner Enovam, and which will mean that by 2020, 6,658 tons of CO2 will no longer be emitted into the atmosphere. The project will begin to be implemented soon in the different hotels that the group has in Mexico.

The action is part of the company's 2019-2024 Energy Efficiency Measures Plan, whose goal is to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions from the activities in its Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts business area. A plan that contemplates the development of other projects such as the intelligent monitoring of energy consumption in its complexes in Bavaro, La Romana and Jamaica, as well as the replacement of the lighting in the group's hotels, incorporating the latest in LED technology, or the automation of the on/off control of equipment and lighting, among others.

In addition, in line with its commitment to environmental protection, Grupo Piñero is also immersed in the implementation of new types of renewable energy, such as geothermal and aerothermal energy, which have already begun to operate in its Bahia Principe Fantasia Tenerife hotel.

All these actions are ultimately focused on achieving the company's commitment to reduce its CO2 emissions by 60% by 2030 and, in turn, contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDAs), a task on which Grupo Piñero focuses much of its effort and resources.

“Grupo Piñero is aware that our activity has a direct impact on the environment in which we operate, so we want to contribute every day, and in every way possible, to reducing emissions and protecting the environment,” says Antonia del Toro, Grupo Piñero's Director of Corporate Social Responsibility. “All these initiatives are just one example that with effort and dedication it is possible to offer excellent services to customers while taking care of the planet,” she concludes.
