Santo Domingo, September 12, 2022.- Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with almost 50 years of history, was honored at the first edition of the National Tourism Award in the Dominican Republic. This recognition was given in the Social Welfare category, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and the environment.
Grupo Piñero has been working hard since 2015 to incorporate environmental, social and ethical criteria into its business strategy, convinced of the need for a solid management model based on environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. As a result, the company is committed to a sustainable tourism model, and has a roadmap toward sustainability in the communities in which it operates.
The award, organized by journalist Luis Severino, highlighted the Group's contributions to the development and growth of the communities, contributing to the strengthening of each of the locations. This marks only the starting point toward a future with a more sustainable tourism, promoting projects that, together with government authorities and other allies, will support the preservation and care of the Dominican Republic.
Jesús Durán, CEO of Grupo Piñero in the Dominican Republic, noted that: “Grupo Piñero is pleased that the Dominican Republic can recognize, through these awards, the joint efforts made by the private and public sectors to benefit Dominican tourism. And the fact that we have been selected as winners in a category with such an impact as Social Welfare makes us feel proud of every program, volunteer and resource that we as a Group have invested for the benefit of this land,” he concluded.
About the action plan
From an economic and social point of view, the goal of this tourism company is to promote the recovery and growth of the sector and, of course, of the country, through a socially responsible investment plan, aimed mainly at the renovation of some of its emblematic assets or hotels, such as the Cayo Levantado Resort Project.
This, with the firm intent of continuing to offer the best experiences to clients through innovation and constant improvement of products and services with high quality standards.
From an environmental standpoint, the Integral Coastal Management Plan deserves special mention, as it is a project aimed at guaranteeing the sustainable management of the natural resources of our properties. The company's goal for 2030 is to "protect, conserve and plan for 100% natural capital”. Grupo Piñero also continues to strengthen its energy efficiency plan and its sustainable mobility plan to advance the company's commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 60% by 2030. Also worth mentioning is its circular economy strategic plan, which will optimize resource management and ensure zero landfill.
In order to continue to promote responsible tourism, the Group remains committed to creating jobs, promoting inclusive social integration, protecting natural and cultural heritage, conserving biodiversity, generating sustainable livelihoods and improving people's well-being. All of this aiming to promote a sustainable culture around tourism, and empower the entire sector in this great cause.
