Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with more than 40 years of history, is continuing its sustainability strategy by moving forward with the implementation of its 2019-2024 Energy Efficiency Measures Plan, in which it is going to invest more than 1,520,000 euros over the course of 2022.
The company will implement several initiatives, including a project for a new hot water distribution system, to which it will allocate a significant portion of the budget, and with which it intends to reduce the emission of 1,722 tons of Co2.
This investment represents a step forward in Grupo Piñero's business management model which, through innovative technology, is improving the efficiency and sustainability of all its processes in order to guarantee better environmental performance. The company has been working toward this goal for some time and, in this regard, in 2021 it achieved a 15% reduction in energy consumption per stay and a 12.6% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the previous year.
In the words of Isabel Piñero, Grupo Piñero's CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer), “with this operation we are strengthening our sustainability strategy and going one step further in our commitment to energy efficiency. This allows us to progress toward the model of responsible and sustainable tourism that we aspire to lead, aligned at all times with the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations.” She added, “At Grupo Piñero, we have been incorporating sustainability into business management for years, integrating environmental, social and good governance criteria in all our business units.”
Energy and Climate, two essential pillars in Grupo Piñero's sustainability strategy.
Within the framework of its new 2022-2030 Sustainability Strategic Plan, Grupo Piñero is working on Energy and Climate, articulating projects aimed at the installation of photovoltaic energy, the contracting of energy with Guaranteed Origin, the promotion of sustainable mobility, the modernization of energy equipment, the monitoring of consumption points and the automation of processes and facilities involving energy and power consumption.
In this sense, the company is promoting a mobility model that is efficient and environmentally friendly, with the aim of achieving 100% sustainable transportation. It is also moving toward the decarbonization of its activity with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30%. To this end, Grupo Piñero is committed to shifting the energy mix toward 100% renewable energy supply. Similarly, the company will implement technology to achieve greater energy efficiency in its infrastructures to reduce energy consumption by 40%.
