Grupo Piñero and Qev Tech Holding Announce Strategic Alliance to Offer Sustainable Mobility Solutions

  • The company resulting from this alliance will be a 50/50 joint venture between the two companies and will offer integrated electromobility solutions to resorts in the Caribbean and Brazil.
  • For Grupo Piñero, the initiative is part of its commitment to the creation of strategic alliances that guarantee its economic, environmental and social sustainability.

Palma, September 6, 2021.- On Friday, September 3, Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with more than 40 years of history, announced the creation of a strategic alliance, through its Turiscar Ecotrain brand, with Qev Tech Holding, to offer sustainable mobility solutions based on electromobility in the Caribbean and Brazil. The announcement took place during the 2nd Edition of the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) Global Tourism Investment Forum held in Cape Verde between the 2nd and 4th of this month, which focused on innovation and investment as levers for the reactivation of tourism after the Covid-19 crisis.

In addition, a global declaration on "The Future of Mobility and Sustainable Transport" was signed during the event, in the presence of Zurab Pololikasvili, Secretary General of UNWTO; Carlos Duarte Santos, Minister of Tourism and Transport of Cape Verde; and Enrique Bañuelos, President of Qev Tech Electromobility Holdings.

Sustainable Mobility

This new company created by Grupo Piñero and Qev Tech Holding, which will be 50% owned by each of them, seeks to provide a comprehensive and sustainable response to the mobility needs of hotels and resorts in the Caribbean and Brazil. Its goal is for combustion mobility to be replaced by electric mobility, through special and unique vehicles that will be specifically designed in Spain.

In addition, it aims to respond to all mobility services required in the hotel sector, from transfers of passengers to airports, to the internal transportation of customers within a resort or excursions and other logistical issues.

Seeking Strategic Alliances for Sustainability

For Grupo Piñero, sustainable transformation is the key element for the economic, social and environmental reactivation that is currently needed. For this reason, as part of its strategic plan, it has launched several lines of work based on innovation, digital transformation and sustainability, including the search for strategic alliances. All this with the clear conviction that the main international frameworks promoted by the United Nations are an essential driver for Sustainable Development and Human Prosperity, with the Sustainable Development Goals as their guide.

In the words of Julio Pérez, CC&BDO (Chief Customer & Business Development Officer) of Grupo Piñero, “Through this announcement we reaffirm our commitment to establish strategic alliances with partners that allow us to contribute to sustainable development in its three aspects: economic, social and environmental. We are very pleased with this initiative, because we have already been committed to sustainable mobility for a long time with our Turiscar Ecotrain brand (100% of the vehicles in our Bahia Principe Golf division, and 90% of the vehicles in Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts are already electric).”

Pérez emphasized that with this new commitment “we are responding to something that is fundamental for us, which is our commitment to the planet, promoting more sustainable mobility and tourism, which will allow us to meet the current challenges we face and contribute to leaving a legacy for the generations to come.”

This example is just one of the other initiatives that the Group has recently announced, such as the creation of Soltour Travel Partners, a Soltour joint venture with Logitravel Group's Smytravel and Bahia Principe Golf's agreement with the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA of America).
