Palma de Mallorca, November 18th, 2021.- Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with more than 40 years of history, is celebrating the first anniversary of Bahia Principe Grand Tulum, located in Riviera Maya, Mexico, after its redesign and complete refurbishment last year.

In a clear commitment to innovation that focuses on the continuous improvement of its products and services, the company carried out a complete remodeling of its emblematic establishment in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the "Origin" concept as the protagonist, based on nature and the roots of the Mayan culture. With this renovation, Grupo Piñero wanted to reinforce the hotel's link with its surroundings and its origins, in order to offer its guests a unique experience that allows them to delve into Mexican and Mayan tradition. The company has introduced decorative and architectural elements throughout the complex to convey this new concept inspired by nature and the origin of the Mayan culture, blending the natural environment with a unique design.

In the words of Ignacio Subías Cano, Country Manager in Mexico for Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, “Since we opened the new Bahia Principe Grand Tulum, we have witnessed a significant increase in the level of customer satisfaction, which this year is up 23.58 points over 2019 according to our Net Promoter Score tool.” He added that “one of the things that is having the greatest impact on guests is the new range of entertainment options and, in particular, the in-house production of the Origin show, which has become an attraction that guests ask about when they arrive at the hotel.”

Antonio Teijeiro COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, pointed out that “this anniversary for the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum has a very special meaning for the company, as we commemorate the reopening of our first hotel in Mexico, where we began operations more than 20 years ago and which has become one of the most emblematic establishments of our brand." He went on to add: “Last year we decided to thoroughly refurbish the facilities, as well as to make a comprehensive change in the hotel's image under the ‘Origin’ concept in order to continue adding value to the tourism sector through our reinvestment policy. To this end, we invested a total of US$40 million in the remodeling of this hotel's facilities.”

Since its reopening in November 2020 and despite the unfavorable context caused by the Covid-19 crisis, the establishment has managed to maintain good occupancy levels initially driven by local and U.S. guests. As the situation improved worldwide and mobility restrictions were eased, visits from other important source markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada, among others, have been received.

Bahia Principe Grand Tulum: A Year Contributing to Local Development

After celebrating the first anniversary of Bahia Principe Grand Tulum, the company has reaffirmed its commitment to the local communities and the environment. Grupo Piñero has actively contributed to the preservation of natural resources and the sustainable management of the territory where the hotel is located, through its Integral Coastal Management Plan (PGIL) launched by the company in 2019.

The project focuses on three areas of action: the socioeconomic setting, the beach-dune system and the aquatic environment. Through four programs: water, biodiversity, landscape and beaches, Grupo Piñero articulates actions to contribute to the conservation of the natural capital of the destinations.

Specifically, the company has initiated the Coastal Restoration Plan in Riviera Maya, Mexico, within the framework of the 'Beaches' program, through which it has carried out work on the beach-dune system, managing to recover more than 600 yards of dune so far.
